Seymour, or King Seymour the Wise, is the king of the local walrus pack. Seymour carries a GPS equipped Transponder, which was bestowed upon him by the Tall-Walkers. This magic crown allows him to hear things that no one else can hear, which is why his pack believes that he is so wise.

In reality, the Tall-Walkers, otherwise known as scientists, use the information obtained by the Transponder to learn about the migrating patterns, social structure, and general habits of the walrus group so they can study them. It was an unexpected side-effect that the walrus bearing the Transponder would have any awareness of what it was or what it did. Once they realized the reaction they nick-named him Seymour - because he could "see more".
