Chibi (pronounced Chee-bee), which is Japanese for "runt", is Futoi's little sister. Wide-eyed and full of curiosity, Chibi loves to adventure with her big brother and learn about the world around her. However, penguins are prime examples of Charles Darwin's theory of "Survival of the Fittest"; so Chibi is at a big disadvantage by being the runt of her family. She is always getting stuck in things, can not move as fast as the others, and is always hungry. In a penguin rookery it is often only the strongest, biggest, and fastest of the penguin chicks that wind up with the food. In a crèche, the penguins that cannot fight their way to the middle are often left out in the cold.

This is why Chibi loves her brother so much: he takes care of her. Under his watchful eye Chibi can play, learn, and have fun - making Futoi her hero.
